The story begins in the early 1980’s in the basement of a bar on Long Island. Called the Hi Ho Doorbell Company in those days, we manufactured digital doorbells that played music and other interesting sounds. By 1988 the company had changed its name to Clever Devices and began focusing on developing the audio sounds used in some of the most popular arcade games of the time.
Then, in 1990 with the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the company began to focus primarily on the transit industry. The first product automated the announcements bus drivers were required to make at each stop.
